WAC LIAISONS - Professional Development

Overview

To support faculty efforts to teach responsibly with writing and AI, the WAC LIAISONS Program offers a variety of professional development opportunities. Explore our workshops, special events, awards, certificates, and department services using the links below.

Workshops

With diverse topics ranging from “Reducing Grading Time with Rubrics” to “Engaging AI Critically with Students," WAC LIAISONS workshops familiarize candidates with WAC theory and practice and enable them to incorporate meaningful writing activities into their courses. Participants leave with instructor-reviewed drafts of writing activities relevant to their own courses.

WAC Certificates

To support faculty and staff interested in teaching with writing, the WAC Program offers a WAC Certificate through the FDC. This certificate program will familiarize candidates with WAC theory and practice and enable them to incorporate meaningful writing assignments into their courses. Certificate recipients will receive a letter of commendation from the FDC Director for their FAR files, an electronic certificate (“badge”) for their webpage/email, and eligibility to apply for a grant of up to $1,000 for travel to a WAC- or writing-related scholarly conference.  Certificate Portfolios are due the first Friday of October.  Coming soon:  a WAC LIAISONS certificate!

Departmental Services

The WAC LIAISONS Program can deliver workshops at departmental meetings and retreats, assist in the development of new or improved upper-division writing courses, and assist in the design of writing prompts or rubrics for “capstone” and coordinated courses.

Travel Grants

To support the professional development of WAC Certificate recipients, we offer a Travel Grant. This grant can be used for travel to a WAC- or writing-related scholarly conference. Click below to learn more.

Student Writing Mentorship Award

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate faculty for WAC's Student Writing Mentorship Award. Eligibile faculty will have mentored student writiers above and beyond class assignments, demonstrating a constructive, positive, and inspiring attitude. Deadline for 2024 nominations is March 8.
