Respondus is a powerful program for creating exams, assessments, and surveys and publishing them to Blackboard. Here is a brief overview of how Respondus works.
Introduction
Create a new quiz
The tabs shown below will take you through the process of creating and publishing a new exam in Respondus. To begin with you will want to be in the Start Tab mode.

Select Create .
A new window will appear. Type the name of the file. Also type in a description of the file you are creating. When finished, select OK .

|
There will be a choice between creating an exam or a survey. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will create an exam. |

|
A new screen will appear and you will be brought to the Edit Tab. |

|
Note: Every type of question in Respondus has the 4 options shown below. These 4 options will be explained first, then the different kinds of available questions that you can create. |

- Point Value determines how much the question will be worth.
- Add to End of List adds the question you just created to the end of the Question List . The Question List is where all of the questions that you have created or imported into Respondus are stored for easy access.

- Insert into List adds the question you just created to into the Question List but not at the end of it. Instead it places the question at the place you select.
- Clear Form will delete all the text you have typed in for that particular question, starting over.
- Preview When you select Preview you will see what the question will look like.

There are 7 different types of questions that can be created in Respondus:
- Multiple Choice
- True and False
- Paragraph
- Matching
- Short Answer
- Multiple Response
- Calculated
Multiple Choice, True and False, and Paragraph will now be explained in further detail.
Multiple Choice. In the second box entitled Question Wording type the actual question. The first box entitled Title of Question is useful for broader categorization.

|
Make sure you select the correct answer for the question. |

- Paragraph. Here you can have your students type in a response to a question you pose. This is good for essay questions.

|
You can also edit your question later by selecting it from the question list. Select your question by selecting the question's title (the blue underlined text that looks like a hyperlink). The following window will appear: |

Modify: The question will reappear in the Respondus editor so you can change and save it.
Delete: Select Delete if you do not like the question.
Move: Change the position of the question in the Question List.

|
After you have created and added all the questions you need to the question list, select the Settings Tab . |

In the Settings tab there are 4 options located on the left side panel:

Most of the available settings within these 4 options are explained in Respondus or are self evident in what they do. This is a broad overview of each of the 4 options available with the more complicated features explained:

|
The Settings Tab can be crucial to your exam! Make sure all the options are set to what you want them to be. |
Question Sets
This allows questions to be selected from a larger group at random.
Basic and availability
Several important parameters are determined here. For example, the amount of time a student is given to take the quiz and when it is made available to them.
Security and Submissions
Features on this page include things such as establishing that passwords are set up so that only the students who have the password can take the quiz. In addition, you can enable Respondus Lockdown Browser, which will prevent students from printing or copying your exam.
Results
Here you can determine what will happen once the student has completed the exam. For example, if the score will be released so the student can see his or her score.

|
When you have finished all of your settings, select the Preview and Publish Tab . |

This tab is where you finish and send your Exam to Blackboard. As before with Settings, most of the options are explained in Respondus or are self evident in what they do. Demonstration pictures and explanations of the more critical and complicated settings are given.
Preview
Before you publish your exam to Blackboard, Respondus recommends that you preview it before it is published on your Blackboard course.

publish to your learning management system
Select Publish Wizard to finish sending the exam you created to your course.

After selecting Publish Wizard a new window will appear. Here you can select whether to publish your exam to a single course or to several at once. Step 2 shows the server settings.

|
Having the server settings correctly setup is critical. If they are not correct you will not be able to connect to your Blackboard course and publish your exam. The correct server settings are available at this web address:
http://fullerton.blackboard.com/respondus |
Select Next . Then select the class or classes you wish to publish your exam to.

This screen will show the computer's progress in publishing the exam to your Learning Management System. Do not close it and wait until it says it has successfully completed the process.

import questions
In this option you may import questions that have been typed in a word processor.

|
