How to make a folder on your Virtual Hard Drive (My Content) available to a single user or your students in a class.

Log on to Blackboard, click on the My Content tab and click on the permission icon of the folder that you wish to share with a single user or your entire class.

Sharing your folder/document with a Single User:

Click on the Add User button, in the Manage Permission window.

Click on Browse to locate the user that you wish to grant read permssion.

1: In the search field put in the First Name , Last Name or the Blackboard Username, if you know it*

*Note: Please be advised that some faculty/staff usernames may be different from their email alias eg (jdoe@fullerton.edu may have a BB username of jdoe1)

2: Make sure to select "Contains" so that the search does not look for an exact match - this expands your search a little.

3. Click the Search button.

4. You will see the results appear, select the appropriate user that you wish to grant permission.

5. Click Submit when done.

1. You will see the user you selected appear in the Username field.

2. Select the extent of permssions you wish to grant eg: Read, Write - It is recommended that you only give READ permissions to users.

3. Click on Submit.

You can now see that Read permission has been granted to the student "Student Shariq" in this case.

Click OK.

The Permissions icon now appears horizontal and not vertical, implying that you are sharing the folder.

Sharing the folder/document with your entire class:

Click on the permissions icon of the folder that you wish to share with your entire class.

Note: Do not click on the Add user button as we did above to add a single user.

In the Manage Permissions window select "Course User List" (if not already selected) and click on the GO button.

1. In the "Add Course User List" window you will see a list of all the courses you are teaching. Select the course, students of which you wish to grant read permission to.

2. You may also click on Browse to look for a course that may be missing. It is recommended that you only pick the course that is in your list as mentioned above.

In the same "Add Course User List" make sure to select "All Course Users" under Choose Roles, and select "Read" under the Set Permissions area. Click on Submit when done.

 

Submit

 

You will see your class name and "All Course Users (User List)" appear under User/User List and a green check mark next to Read. This signifies that you have just granted Read permissions to ALL students in that particular class.

Confirmation

Click here to view how the students can access the content you just made available to them.
