Instructions to Propose New Requirement in Curriculog
This form is for new or existing courses to be considered for upper-division writing requirement certification or re-certification. If the course is new or other changes to the course are proposed (e.g., prerequisites, units, title), a new course proposal or course change form must be submitted concurrently. There are instructions throughout the form to help you.

Undergraduate courses that fulfill (or partially fulfill) the upper-division writing requirement must be designated as writing intensive, writing complementary, or thesis courses. To meet the UDWR certification requirement of a 3-unit intensive writing course, the course must include writing as its primary objective. The UWPC recommends including this statement at the top of the syllabus:
"This course is designated by the University Writing Proficiency Committee as a writing-intensive course . Earning a "c" (2.0) or higher may be used by certain majors to fulfill the University's upper-division writing requirement (UDWR). Check with an advisor in your major to determine if this source will satisfy the requirement for your major."
In addition, the syllabus of an intensive writing course shall describe how the course satisfies the intensive writing requirement. (UPS 320.020)This information can be presented in the course objectives, student learning outcomes, assignment descriptions, assignment rubrics, and/or the course schedule. Please verify that the course syllabus and materials indicate the following requirements for a writing-intensive course:
