ANNOUNCING CSUF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
FACULTY RECOGNITION EVENT:
Outstanding Service
Nominations (including self-nominations) are invited from all full-time faculty members who have provided a record of outstanding service to our students, the university, or the external community. Nominations should be submitted to the Department Chair and should include a brief description (no more than 150 words) of the nominee’s outstanding service contributions. To qualify for inclusion in this event, a faculty nominee must have a record of extraordinary and sustained service during the past three years (Spring 2002 - Fall 2005). “Outstanding” service significantly exceeds the normal expectations of faculty, whose positions routinely entail teaching, research, and service. Normal performance of service activities-advising and mentoring students, serving on and chairing department, college, and University committees, participating in professional and community activities-will, in themselves, not constitute the basis for an award for Outstanding Service.
Department Chairs may nominate up to 25% of their faculty members for outstanding service. Chairs must include a brief description (no more than 150 words) of the nominee’s outstanding work and these nominations should be forwarded to the College Deans who will review and recommend no more than the top 15% of faculty from their College for recognition. Deans should forward their nominations with a description of the nominee’s outstanding work to the Faculty Development Center (PLS48 or lstotler@fullerton.edu). The FDC will receive all College submissions and forward the Deans’ recommendations to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for final approval.
Nominations for outstanding faculty must be in only one of the following three categories. Note: the examples shown are meant only to be illustrative of each category.
· Service to Students - service in this category involves activities outside of normal teaching responsibilities and involves extraordinary service to students for example, in the area of mentoring or advising.
· Service to the University - service in this category involves extraordinary activities to the department, program, college, or university and may include outstanding leadership activities in the area of collegial governance.
· Service to the External Community - service in this category may involve extraordinary activities in the local community, the state, nationally, or internationally.
