Three Summer Events for Faculty

The Faculty Development Center will be offering three different institutes or academies for faculty this summer, focusing on technology, distance education, and research grants. Space is limited for these workshops, as described below. We are charging fees that cover our costs for reproducing materials and supplies. Faculty are encouraged to bring their own lunches (summer food choices on campus are really limited!!).All faculty are eligible, including full and part-time instructors.

  1. Summer Technology Institute

    A. Blackboard.

  • Thursday, June 5th and 19th; on-line homework session, Thursday, June 12th.
  • Limited to 60 participants
    B. Macromedia Studio Summer Camp

  • July 21st to 25th
  • Limited to 20 participants
  • Covers Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks
  • $100 for home copy of software (optional).

  2. Summer Distance Learning Academy

  • Limited to 20 full time faculty
  • Two weeks: June 23rd through July 3rd
  • At the end of this two week academy, faculty members will have all the information they need to create a complete online distance learning course. The two week academy covers each step of the design process with faculty using their own course materials as content to develop an on-line course. For some faculty members, the two-week session will be sufficient to create a course ready to go for the Fall semester.

  3. Summer Research Grant Academy

  • Limited to 20 full-time faculty
  • One week, July 7th through 11th
  • At the end of this Academy, participants will have a draft of a grant proposal to submit to a funding organization. Participants will learn about pre and post award procedures, copyright and patent policies, compliance issues, and resources and services. Participants will receive individualized assistance in identifying funding resources and in preparation of proposals.

All three events are very “hands-on” with concrete products as the end result. Most sessions take place in the Faculty Development Center (PLS 44). If you are interested in participating, please contact Dr. Sandra Sutphen at extension 5628.
