Microteaching
For the third consecutive year the Faculty Development Center is offering
Microteaching to help faculty hone their teaching skills in a supportive,
non-confrontational setting. Microteaching can provide participants fresh
perspectives on their teaching styles. The core of microteaching is the
presentation of two ten-minute microlessons to other participants acting
as "student learners." By participating, observing others and
playing the role of the learner, you can gain insights on becoming more
effective in the classroom. You may also use the forum to try something
new. Past participants agree that this is a very worthwhile and professionally
enriching experience.
Microteaching sessions will be facilitated by four emeriti (Lynda
Randall, HUSER; Eric Solberg,
ECON; Kay Stanton, ENGLISH;
Norm Page, SPCH) of the CSUF Carnegie
Faculty Teacher-Scholar in Residence Program. A demonstration will
be provided prior to the microteaching sessions to give participants a
clearer idea of what to expect. The facilitators presented such a demonstration
last March, in Washington D.C., at the AAHE Colloquium on Campus Conversations,
where it was enthusiastically received by the audience of specialists
in university education methodology.
