After a real meeting you'll need to take a nap, or walk around the campus, or relive the highs and lows with some of your colleagues. Yet at the same time the weariness you feel will not be unpleasant because it will come accompanied by a conviction that something was actually done, that the enterprise was moved forward a bit (incremental progress is the best kind in an academic institution), that your heads and chairs are saying to their faculties: The dean's in his office and all is (relatively) well with the world.

Make Decisions Collaboratively * Synthesize and Harmonize Divergent Views * Reach Consensus
Funded
by the Chancellors Office, the Decision Support Center (DSC) is
a facility operated and managed by CSUF's Faculty Development Center
. The DSC was established as a resource for the CSUF community to
assist with group decision making processes: brainstorming, "blue
sky/what if" thinking, problem identification, and consensus
building through polling and voting on proposed ideas. What sets
the Decision Support Center apart is its use of software to facilitate
the group discussion process. Each computer in the DSC is linked
to the network and equipped with a software package called GroupSystems,
specially developed for group discussion and decision processes.
GroupSystems facilitates the standard problems solving agenda of
defining the problem, gerenating ideas, evaluating possible solutions,
and selecting the optimal solution. GroupSystems allows for anonymous
participant input, thereby alleviating many of the problems
of traditional meetings.
The DSC is open to all CSUF faculty, staff and administrators.
It may not be used as a teaching facility or for student-centered
activities. It is primarily intended to facilitate administrative
and decision-making processes.
Note: The FDC offers a
one hour workshop that explains Groupsystems and the DSC
