Plagiarism Detection Using Turnitin.com
Description
This hands-on workshop introduces you to Turnitin.com, an online plagiarism detection service accessible via the Turnitin website or through your Blackboard course. Students submit their papers electronically and then Turnitin compares the student's paper with the publicly-accessible internet, electronic databases, and millions of previously submitted student papers. Whenever a match is found, Turnitin highlights the suspect paragraph(s) in the student paper and displays it side-by-side with electronic source(s) in which similar text was located. This makes it a snap for the instructor to review.
Papers may be submitted through Turnitin's web interface OR through Blackboard depending on the preferences of the instructor. Both options are taught in this workshop.
A multi-faceted integrated approach to plagiarism prevention is discussed.
