Second Life: The Virtual World as a Tool for Online Learning
Description
The popularity of Second Life and other virtual worlds continues to grow. According to a Feb. 2009 report by CNN, Second Life has reached 16 million users, up from 2 million, only two years ago. Non-Profit, Government, and Education Institutions have all embraced Second Life as a communication and education tool with over two-hundred higher education institutions providing Second Life sites.
During this 2-hour workshop, we will explore the virtual world of Second Life. After a short introduction to the environment, we will visit existing sites that offer possibilities for educational uses of Second Life and provide examples that you might want to try in your own Online Courses. We will end with a tour of Fullerton Island, Cal State Fullerton’s Second Life site.
