Introduction to Second Life

Description

Second Life has been demonstrated to be an excellent environment for online teaching and learning. This course will introduce you to Second Life.

Second Life is a virtual world developed in 2003 that is accessible by the internet.  This virtual world provides an electronic game-like environment populated by avatars that represent individual users of the environment.  Using your avatar, the digital character that represents you, it is possible to walk, fly, or teleport around the environment participating in various activities.

In this introductory workshop, you will create an account that allows you to access the environment.  You will also learn how to modify your avatar, navigate within Second Life, and use common tools for managing your Second-Life environment.  Finally, you will be led on a tour of some interesting locations.

This workshop will prepare you for the Second Life: The Virtual World as a Tool for Online Learning.
