Description
This workshop provides an overview of copyright for faculty with emphasis on Blackboard, library electronic resources, classroom multimedia, and distance education. Attention will also be given to some fundamental provisions of contemporary copyright such as Fair Use, the Teach Act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Goals of the workshop:
Through activities and discussion, participants should:
- Be able to make informed decisions about linking or posting articles or other materials on Blackboard and electronic reserves.
- Understand the appropriate use of library electronic resources and other materials protected by copyright.
- Know how copyright applies to media (audio/visual) displays in the classroom.
- Learn to apply Fair Use appropriately and in a time efficient manner.
- Know when and how to request permission from a copyright holder.
