Design & Administer Effective Web Surveys

Thursday September 20th 2007, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Description

This workshop is designed for those interested in moving from paper to web surveys.  The workshop involves a web conference (10-11.30 am), followed by a conversation (11:30-12:30 pm) facilitated by Dr. Greg Robinson, Director, H&SS Social Science Research Center, on validity and reliability issues of web surveys.

The web conference will review the many aspects of designing and successfully administering a web survey with a high response rate. Major topics include:

  • How theories of survey response can inform design
  • Structure and content of email contacts
  • Advantages of a mixed-mode contact approach
  • Security and anonymity of responses
  • Sample size issues
  • Incentives in web surveys
  • Overall appearance
  • Question response categories
  • Length and progress indicators
