Blackboard Virtual Classroom and Lightweight Chat

Description

This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how to use Blackboard’s real-time Virtual Classroom and Lightweight Chat tools.

With these tools you can:

  • Conduct Virtual Office hours.
  • Meet with small groups of students without coming to campus.
  • Enable student collaboration on papers and projects while eliminating travel time.
  • Give students enrolled in online sections/courses an informal place to connect and chat.

Blackboard’s Virtual Classroom provides a variety of classroom tools from which to choose:

  • Chat (choose between allowing participants to chat freely or control who “has the floor”)
  • Whiteboard
  • Group Web Browser (enables the group to view a web page simultaneously)
  • And more!

At the conclusion of this workshop, you will know which features are likely to benefit your students and how to implement them.

Objectives
  • Discuss effective use of the Chat tool.
  • Obtain hands-on experience with Chat from instructor and student perspectives.
  • Experience the Virtual Classroom and the variety of tools it offers.
  • Create Chat Rooms and Virtual Classrooms.
  • Conduct a Chat session.
  • Explore the Virtual Classroom tools.
Prerequisites
  • Blackboard Course Web Site Design and Development workshop.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Familiarity with using a mouse.
  • Opening, closing and saving documents.
